| The Majapahit Kingdom was established
by Raden Wijaya after the fall of the Singosari Empire. The
exact date used as the birth of the Majapahit kingdom is the
day of his coronation, the 15th of kartika month in the year
1215 using saka calendar, which equates to November 10,1293.
On that date, his title has changed from Raden Wijaya to Sri
Kertarajasa Jayawardhana.
The
kingdom grew and extended its power under the leadership of
Raden Wijaya's daughter, Tribuwanatunggadewi and the commander
of her army, Gajah Mada (1328-1350). The Majapahit kingdom
reached its peak, under the rule of Hayam Wuruk, the son of
Tribhuwanattunggadewi (1350-1389). This Kingdom controlled
not only the greater part of Indonesia, but a considerable
part of mainland south East Asia as well.
During
this time, the country was united and the mighty Majapahit
Kingdom expanded throughout Southeast Asia. After the death
of Hayam Wuruk, the power struggle amongst the royal heritage,
weakened the kingdom and eventually led to destruction in
1478, when the Demak kingdom launched an attack them. It was
met with little resistance, as the leadership of the Majapahit
forces was already ineffective.
